Method
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This will ensure your cornbread bakes evenly and gets that lovely golden crust.
Step 2: Prepare the Baking Dish
- Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or a round cake pan with a little butter or non-stick spray. This will help your cornbread slide right out.
Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined. This is where the magic begins!
Step 4: Combine Wet Ingredients
- In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the sour cream and melted butter. Mix until smooth and creamy.
Step 5: Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Don’t overmix; a few lumps are perfectly fine!
Step 6: Pour into Baking Dish
- Carefully pour the batter into your prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Step 7: Bake
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step 8: Cool and Serve
- Once baked, remove the cornbread from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice it up and enjoy warm, perhaps with a pat of butter on top!
